Is Your Phone eSIM-Compatible?

eSIM support is not guaranteed — even on flagship phones. It depends on your exact model, the regional variant, and sometimes your carrier. This guide shows you how to check any phone in under a minute, with concrete answers for the models travelers ask about most: OnePlus, Oppo, iQOO, and beyond.

The 30-second compatibility check

  1. Dial *#06# in your phone app. If an EID number appears alongside the IMEI, the hardware supports eSIM.
  2. Look in Settings. iPhone: Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM. Android: Settings → Network & internet → SIMs (or Connections → SIM manager). An "Add eSIM" option means support.
  3. Search your exact model — including regional variant (e.g. "OnePlus 8T IN2015 eSIM"). Support differs between the US, EU, Indian and Chinese versions of the same phone.

Don't forget the lock. A carrier-locked phone rejects third-party eSIM profiles even when the hardware supports them. Check Settings → General → About → Carrier Lock on iPhone, or ask your carrier.

OnePlus: does the 8T support eSIM?

The OnePlus 8T does not support eSIM in most regions. OnePlus added eSIM support starting with the OnePlus 9 series in selected markets (mainly North America). Rules of thumb:

  • OnePlus 8 series, 7 series and older: no eSIM — no variant supports it.
  • OnePlus 9 / 10 / 11 / 12 / 13 (US & some EU variants): yes.
  • Indian and Chinese OnePlus variants: generally no eSIM, even on recent flagships. Always verify with *#06#.

If you own a OnePlus 8T, a travel eSIM unfortunately isn't an option — a physical travel SIM or pocket Wi-Fi is the alternative.

Oppo: does the Oppo A58 support eSIM?

No — the Oppo A58 does not support eSIM. The A-series is Oppo's budget line and ships without an eSIM chip in nearly all markets. eSIM on Oppo is limited to selected Find X flagships and some Reno models sold in Europe. If your daily phone is an A58, check the *#06# EID test to be sure, but expect to use a physical SIM for travel.

iQOO: does the iQOO 15R have eSIM?

It depends on the region. iQOO ships eSIM mainly on Indian and selected global variants. For the iQOO 15R, run the *#06# check — Indian units typically show an EID, while Chinese-market units (sold as iQOO or Vivo sub-brands) usually don't. When buying gray-market imports, eSIM support is the feature most often missing.

What about BYOP / bring-your-own-phone plans?

BYOP eSIM plans (bring your own phone — common with US carriers like Mint, Visible or US Mobile) work exactly like travel eSIMs from a technical standpoint: they install a carrier profile over an eSIM-capable, unlocked phone. The same check applies: EID present + phone unlocked = BYOP eSIM will activate.

My phone shows an EID but no "Add eSIM" in settings. Your carrier's software build may hide the menu, or the phone is locked. Update iOS/Android to the latest version and confirm the phone is unlocked.
